Al-Shanqeeti’s approach to interpreting the Qur’an

Abstract

There is no doubt that the interpretation of the Holy Qur'an is one of the most important services that the scholars of the Islamic nation have been performing since the beginning of Islam. Throughout the history of Qur'an interpretation, during this great process of interpretation, Muslim scholars performed this great service by using all available resources. The example of which cannot be found in other nations. From the beginning of Islam, among the methods adopted by Muslim scholars for the interpretation of the Qur'an, the foremost is to interpret the Qur'an through the Qur'an. This method of interpretation of the Qur'an came to be held in high esteem, until it became the most correct, the most important and the most sacred in the minds of Muslim commentators. So they wrote many commentaries on this method and this blessed series continues till now. Among the commentators who interpreted the Holy Qur'an from the Holy Qur'an, there is also a scholar of about half a century ago, Sheikh Al-Shanqiti. Whose Tafsir “Azwa-ul-Bayan fi Tafsir-il-Qur'an bil-Qur'an”. Is this Tafsir really a Tafsir that can be described as Tafsir of the Qur'an through the Qur'an? And Is it acceptable to its companions in Tafsir Qur'an? We will try to answer these and other similar questions in this article. And we will formulate our treatment by attempting to review the efforts of some of those who have attempted to practice this doctrine. One of them is Shaykh al-Shanqiti Whose important famous Tafsir is: “Azwa-ul-Bayan fi Tafsir-il-Qur'an bil-Qur'an”.
